The School-Based Services at DCI are based on
the following components:
Alternative Treatment for the Severely Emotionally Impaired children in a special education classroom. This program blends together the different expertise available through Development Centers and the Detroit Public Schools in a cooperative atmosphere that represents a uniquely therapeutic and comprehensive healing and learning experience.
Collaborative partnerships are formed with schools, families, communities, and agencies to address risk factors and promote resilience. Strategies are developed that strengthen youth and families. They are empowered with the knowledge of how to access expertise and resources in the community.
Prevention and early intervention services build resilience ensure access to school and family supports to promote healthy emotional development and academic success. A unique component “Get in the Game!” a program using evidence-based drug and violence prevention strategies.
Children can react to life crisis or environmental stressors. They may display behaviors like depression, opposition, truancy, fighting, anxiety, inattentiveness, or other emotional concerns that can disrupt the learning process. A student exhibiting one or more of the following characteristics in addition to environmental stressors should be assessed for services:
