After Baby Comes (ABC)

 

The ABC program is a home-based service for families with a child or children ages 0-3 years old. The goal of these services is to provide parents with information and support related to infant and toddler health and development, parenting, early learning and school readiness, community resources and any other issues or concerns they might have about their child, themselves as parents or their family as a whole. These services are provided at no cost to you. Some of the services ABC can provide for you and your child are as follows:

  • Information on development and activities you can do with your baby or toddler to stimulate his or her development.
  • Regular developmental screenings to ensure your child is on track developmentally.
  • Information on infant development, health and care of the infant.
  • Infant massage and its benefits. Information on toddlers, establishing healthy routines and ways to cope with challenging behaviors.
  • Supporting positive social emotional development and helping your child be ready for preschool.
  • Support for you as a parent.
  • Support and counseling for families coping with multiple stressors impacting their role as parents.
  • Assistance with identifying and accessing community resources.

BrightStars Early Learning Centers

 

BrightStars offers free school readiness programming for families with young children ages 0-5. BrightStars Early Learning Centers offers parent-child play groups, in-home special activities, infant massage, storytime, early childhood music and movement and monthly special events. All programming promotes healthy physical and brain development, social emotional development, play and stimulation, and communication between parents and child. Newsletter available by mail to all who register.

Care Connections

care connections

 

Care Connections provides early childhood mental health consultation for parents and child care providers caring for children ages 0-3, who are experiencing behavioral or emotional challenges that put them at risk for expulsion from child care. Care Connections aims to reduce, expulsions, improve the quality of childcare, and increase the number of parents and providers who successfully nurture the social-emotional development of infants, toddlers, and preschoolers.

 

Program Eligibility:

  • Childcare providers must be licensed, registered or enrolled with the Department of Human Services (DHS)
  • Childcare providers who care for children birth up to 36 months who are receiving or eligible to receive the DHS child care subsidy.

The program provides short-term child/family-centered consultation for children with challenging behaviors that may include:

 

  • A free anonymous helpline. Consultants are available to answer questions about infant and toddler behavior.
  • Free on-site consultation to develop and implement strategies to help infants and toddlers with challenging behavior.
  • Free regular get-togethers for DHS enrolled relative care providers and daycare aides to share ideas about child behavior and development.

Early On

 

Early On is a program for infants and toddlers under the age of three who have a developmental delay in any area including motor development, language, social-emotional, cognitive or self-help skills, vision or hearing difficulties OR children who have a medical condition that most likely will impact their development.  Early On assists families in getting the help they need for their children to grow and develop to their fullest potential.  Developmental assessments and guidance, parent support, home visits, service coordination and linking to community resources are services offered by Early On.  A family service coordinator will help put together an individualized family service plan that best suits the needs of the child and family.  Service area includes west and northwest Detroit, Redford and Western Wayne County suburbs.

Great Parents, Great Start

Great Parents, Great Start is a home visiting program done in collaboration with Wayne RESA, focusing on development, early literacy and family support and providing activities for parent and child to families of children birth to 4 years of ages who are not yet receiving Head Start services. DCI provides the service in West and Northwest Detroit, Redford, Livonia, Garden City, Plymouth, Canton, Northville and Westland.  This is a free service. We also offer a one time Welcome Baby home visit, including a free gift, for any parent of a newborn (up to 3 months of age) living in Wayne County.

Parent-Infant Program
(Infant Mental Health)

 

The Parent-Infant Program is a home based service for expectant parents and families with children up to age 3. The goal of the program is to develop strong parent-child relationships that will help the child’s early social-emotional, physical and cognitive development. Services include home visiting, parenting education, developmental guidance, assistance with concrete needs, and counseling to help parents with depression, anxiety, loss, change or other issues or concerns that may impact their child. Group therapy and parenting groups are also available.


Service area for the program is west and northwest Detroit, Redford, Livonia, Garden City, Canton, Plymouth, Westland and Northville. There is no charge for Medicaid and all other sliding scales.

Preschool
Intervention Program

The Preschool Intervention Program works with young children age 2 ½ to 5 who are experiencing social, emotional and/or behavioral difficulties. This includes difficulty in childcare or preschool, problems at home or in relationships with parents, siblings, other children, or any other concerns. Assessments, play therapy, family therapy and assistance with resources in the community are offered. Services can be provided in the home or in the office.  General service area is west and northwest Detroit, Redford, Livonia, Garden City, Canton, Plymouth, Westland and Northville. However, if families have transportation and come into the agency for services, any Wayne County family is eligible. There is no charge for families with Medicaid or no insurance; a sliding fee scale is available for those with
other insurance.
